Canada: Garibaldi Provincial Park, B.C. – Elfin Lakes & Opal Cone
by Eli Boschetto

When outdoor enthusiasts hear mention of British Columbia, often the first thought that comes to mind is the monstrous mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb, attracting throngs of skiers and snowboarders to their epic slopes every winter. However, Canada's coast mountains have much more to offer to those seeking adventure in the great outdoors. The town of Squamish, self-proclaimed Outdoor Capital of Canada, is not only the gateway to Whistler, but lies at the doorstep of Garibaldi Provincial Park. How Garibaldi is not classified as a national park is baffling, with its abundance of high jagged peaks, immense glaciers and ice sheets, alpine lakes and meadows, and miles upon miles of trails. The two most popular areas, for both summer and winter exploration, center around Garibaldi Lake and the backcountry Elfin Lakes.
